About The Position

This position will be from April to August for the summer program. The Upward Bound (UB) Office Assistant provides essential operational support to the UB program coordinator and team. This part-time role balances routine clerical tasks and budget maintenance with active participation in student-centered activities, particularly during the Summer Academic Program.

Requirements

  • 1-2 years in an office assistant role with a preference for experience working with high school students.
  • Strong understanding of TRIO Upward Bound goals and grant requirements.
  • Ability to remain flexible and adjust to changing conditions or off-site work assignments as needed.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of word processing and budget tracking programs (specifically Microsoft Excel and Google Workspace).
  • Familiarity with TRIO Upward Bound objectives.
  • Proven ability to maintain organization while multitasking between clerical and student-facing duties.
  • Strong proficiency in record-keeping, event planning, and promoting services to high school students.

Nice To Haves

  • TRIO Background: Previous experience as a student, teacher, counselor, or advisor within TRIO programs, specifically Upward Bound.
  • Student Outreach: Proven experience working with first-generation students and those from limited-income backgrounds.
  • Program Experience: Direct history of working with TRIO projects or similar educational access and success programs.

Responsibilities

  • Support daily operations, logistical tasks, and coordination for the Summer Academic Program.
  • Handle routine clerical tasks and duties to support Upward Bound staff.
  • Assist in tracking program budget using Microsoft Excel and word processing software, including monitoring expenses.
  • Help plan and promote social and motivational services for UB students.
  • Perform various job-related duties as assigned to assist the Director and Program Coordinator.
