About The Position

The Trimmer Trainee position at The Davey Tree Expert Company involves trimming and removing trees, as well as removing unwanted, diseased, or dying limbs to ensure the health and safety of trees and surrounding areas. The role includes learning to climb trees, operating as a member of a tree crew, and progressively acquiring new skills related to tree pruning and removal services. Responsibilities include tree identification, pruning, thinning, and removing deadwood, installing cables and bracing, assisting in the removal of hazardous trees, and maintaining tools and equipment such as chainsaws and aerial lifts.

Requirements

• Love of the outdoors
• Ability to complete the Davey Tree Trimmer Orientation Program upon hire
• Ability to complete the Davey Tree First Aid, CPR and defensive driving course upon hire

Nice To Haves

• Background in Forestry, Horticulture, Landscaping, or working at heights
• Relevant pesticide and related licenses and certificates, if required by state law

Responsibilities

• Learn to climb trees
• Operate as a member of a tree crew while progressively learning new skills
• Learn to perform all aspects of tree pruning and removal services safely and skillfully
• Prune, thin, and remove deadwood throughout the tree canopy
• Learn how to install cables, bracing, and lightning protection systems
• Assist in removal of hazardous trees
• Properly maintain, prepare and operate all tools and equipment including chainsaws, chippers, aerial lifts, and more.
