About The Position

Manages the process of trim creation and collection on the fabrication floor. This role will give guidance and direction to the fabrication tables and leaders of opportunities and performance driven workmanship that impact trims complex’s yield and lean point attainment. This role acts as a bridge between frontline supervisors and plant leadership to ensure that trim operations meet safety, quality, and efficiency targets and are delivering on company objectives. Provide leadership and expertise to trim and fabrication to achieve all production targets, yields, labor and performance to achieve goals (KPI’s).

Requirements

  • Proven experience in a beef processing plant with emphasis on Trim.
  • Possess a deep understanding of beef carcass breakdown, portion cutting, and lean/fat percentage sorting.
  • Strong organizational interpersonal & communication skills
  • Must be 18 years of age and authorized to work in the US
  • High School Diploma or GED with College education preferred but not required
  • Must be able read, write, and speak English
  • Must be able to communicate effectively in a diverse workforce and with upper management
  • Critical thinking, problem solving, planning and organizational skills
  • Acceptable Microsoft Office skills
  • Effective Communication skills
  • Teamwork and Conflict Management
  • Relevant familiarity with automatic sorting systems (e.g., FOSS MeatMaster II, FPEC) and conveyor systems.
  • Industry relevant experience and extensive knowledge of beef cuts in production process
  • Possess meaningful experience leading production supervisors and managing large, diverse teams
  • Ability to stand, bend, lift up to 50 pounds
  • Performing physical activities that require considerable use of arms and legs and moving your whole body, such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, and stooping, as needed.
  • Standing for long period of time.
  • Ability to work 8-10 hours a day in a cold or hot environment.
  • Work may involve exposure to loud noises, wet slippery floors, and moving machinery.
  • Must be comfortable working in a fast-paced environment that requires attention to detail and adherence to safety standards.
  • Required to wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) such gloves, safety glasses, and hearing protection as needed.
  • Must be willing to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays, based on production’s needs.

Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership for the continuous evaluation of short and long-term departmental objectives
  • Promotes a safe working environment following company, state and federal safety policies, regulations and laws
  • Coordinates, manages and monitors the productivity of the supervisors within the Trim Department
  • Responsible for yield and efficiency management, ensuring maximum lean meat recovery and optimizing the value of meat trimmings while reducing waste
  • Lead and motivate multi-disciplinary teams and develop an effective trim team
  • Improve processes and policies in support of organizational goals for all departments for quality and customer service
  • Ensure that department meets national and international compliance standards
  • Responsible for quality and safety control, maintaining USDA compliance for food safety (HACCP) and ensuring proper, sanitized, and accurate trimming of contamination or defects
  • Responsible for production oversight, managing daily trimming operations
  • Prepares and controls operational budget plans and effective strategies for profitability
  • Assist in the development of strategic plans for operational activities and operational capital
  • Facilitate coordination and communication between IT, HR, Accounting and Finance departments
  • Supervise and train all trim staff to ensure adherence to customer specifications and safety standards.
  • Manages all administrative functions for the department, such as crewing levels, job cross training, employee productivity and development plans.
  • Report daily results and initiatives
  • Directing work, appraising performance, rewarding and correcting employees, addressing complaints and resolving problems
  • Manages yields tests
  • Partner with maintenance for equipment performance and inventory control to align with production schedules.
