As part of the Health Promotion Services Department the Tribal Practices Coordinator (TPC), will ensure all grant activities are designed and implemented with cultural accuracy and respect. Responsibilities will include collaboration with consortium tribes, tribal worksites, and other tribal entities. The TPC will be encouraged to share resources and information and increase health and wellness through cultural practice. This position will work with collaborators to identify cultural leaders/facilitators who are qualified to facilitate traditional activities; conduct historical research, as well as community outreach and marketing activities.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Two years related tribal experience, community experience, and/or training.
  • Experience working with Tribal communities.
  • Knowledgeable of Southern California Tribes.
  • Knowledge of consortium community and resources as it relates to position.
  • Ability to interpret and translate grant goals and objectives into effective services for the community.
  • Ability to work effectively with team members.
  • Ability to identify problems, use good judgment and recommend solutions.
  • Ability to establish priorities and coordinate work activities.
  • Possess excellent interpersonal communication skills.
  • Possess excellent public speaking skills.
  • A valid California driver’s license and a good driving record will be required at the time of appointment and must be maintained throughout employment.
  • Current CPR certification or attainment within 6 months of hire.
  • Applicants must successfully pass a pre-employment physical exam, tuberculin skin test or x-ray and urine drug screen test that includes marijuana.
  • Health must be adequate to perform all duties of the position.
  • Must pass a criminal background check.

Responsibilities

  • Assist and support all COIPP activities including design and implement appropriately.
  • Implement community activities and events working with community members and partners that teach, build upon, celebrate and strengthen cultural and traditional practices and teachings.
  • Develop health education language activities that promote and connect community health and Native language.
  • Establish and/or strengthen sustainable programs the promote traditions and provides those opportunities to tribal community members.
  • In collaboration with the grant team, enhance, strengthen and increase opportunities and support for traditional values and wellness
  • Maintain records and progress notes, document processes and activities related to cultural advocacy and inter-tribal communication.
  • Meet regularly to gain and share input and update the Program Manager on progress and ways to bring community to use clinic services.
  • Coordinate the development, revision and implementation of traditional education programs, materials and resources within job scope.
  • Initiate, implement and evaluate the program through the Continuous Quality Improvement process.
  • Represents IHC at events as assigned by Department Director or Program Manager.
  • Position may be re-assigned during activation of EOP.
