Our Tribal Police Department is seeking motivated professionals, preferably with Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST), Alaska Police Standards Council Academy training, and at least one year of patrol experience; preferably in rural Alaskan communities, and/or a background in military policing. As a TPO, you will be part of a team dedicated to enforcing Tribal and federal laws. TPOs respond to a range of service calls, assisting Elders, vulnerable individuals, and investigating crimes. They are primarily responsible for preventing crime and actively participating in community safety and crime prevention programs, upholding Tribal and federal laws, and protecting the public through patrolling assigned areas and completing tasks as assigned by their supervisor.

Requirements

  • 1+ year(s) of police experience is preferred
  • Excellent interpersonal, customer service, and leadership skills; including the ability to work effectively with people from diverse backgrounds; establish and maintain cooperative relationships
  • Strong problem-solving, analytical, and organizational abilities
  • Superb verbal and technical written communication skills
  • Ability to function well under pressure in a fast-paced environment
  • A valid Alaska Driver’s license and the ability to be insured on CVTC’s vehicle insurance policy is a requirement of this position
  • The successful candidate has completed an Alaska Police Standards Council (APSC) recognized 16-week Law Enforcement Academy or a post certified Academy with the 2-week Alaska certification as recognized by the APSC
  • This position requires you to complete and pass: a pre-employment state and federal background check, pre-employment drug screening, criminal investigative background check, psychological evaluation, polygraph and fit for duty exam as a condition of employment

Responsibilities

  • Follow standard operating procedures to observe and respond to various situations and/or emergencies
  • Complete case work and produce internal reports
  • Foster public relationships and correspond with emergency services, community groups and individuals
  • Attend and provide evidence in court upon request
  • Participate in Tribal meetings, trainings, and events
