About The Position

The Tribal Liaison supports engagement and relationship-building with Tribal Nations, community stakeholders, and regional partners across the Yukon-Kuskokwim Region. This position coordinates communication, outreach, and consolation efforts to advance corporate priorities, economic development opportunities, and community interests. The tribal Liaison provides administrative, analytical, and logistical support for projects and initiatives, while collaborating with internal teams and external partners to ensure engagement efforts are culturally appropriate, responsive, and aligned with organizational goals.

Requirements

High School diploma or equivalent required; Associate or Bachelor’s degree in relevant field preferred.
Three (3) years of relevant experience in tribal relations, community engagement, government relations, or related field.
Valid state driver’s license and be qualified to operate a vehicle under the conditions of Calista’s Driving Policy.
Fluency in Yupik language (ability to understand, speak and translate).
Ability to travel frequently to remote areas of Alaska.
Ability to pass a drug, driving, and background screening.
Knowledge of tribal governments, Alaska Native culture, and the Yukon-Kuskokwim Region.
Ability to build and maintain effective relationships with Tribes and Alaska Native Corporations, and community partners.
Strong understanding of cultural values, traditions, and communication practices within Alkaa Native communities.
Ability to understand and communicate complex policy, environmental, and project-related information.
Strong analytical skills, including the ability to track and interpret state and federal policy development.
Ability to facilitate meetings, outreach efforts, and stakeholder engagement activities.
Excellent verbal and written communications skills, including the ability to prepare reports, correspondence, and presentations.
Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.
Strong attention to detail, organized, and proactive follow-up as needed.
Ability to handle sensitive information with professionalism, discretion, and cultural awareness.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and ability to learn new systems and applications.
Ability to adapt to changing priorities, manage competing demands, and respond effectively to unexpected challenges.
Willingness to travel to remote locations for extended periods of time.
Ability to operate a motor vehicle in a safe and efficient manner.

Responsibilities

Support and coordinate engagement with Tribal Nations across the Yukon-Kuskokwim Region, ensuring communication is consistent, culturally appropriate, and aligned with corporate and shareholder priorities.
Build, develop, and maintain strong relationships with Tribes, village corporations, community leaders, government agencies, nonprofits, and other regional stakeholders to strengthen regional alignment and economic opportunities.
Coordinate communication between tribal governments, community partners, and internal business units to support collaboration, partnership development, and service delivery.
Assist in planning, coordinating, and facilitating tribal consultations, regional meetings, community events, and stakeholder engagements to inform corporate strategy, advocacy, and business development efforts.
Track, analyze, and monitor state and federal policy developments impacting Alaska Native communities, including subsistence, fisheries, infrastructure, broadband access, and rural economic development.
Prepare briefing materials, reports, correspondence, talking points, and presentations for leadership engagement with tribal, state, federal, and industry partners.
Maintain accurate records of tribal engagement efforts, including consultation logs, meeting summaries, data tracking and follow-up actions to ensure accountability and compliance.
Support alignment between External Affairs and Calista’s business lines by identifying community priorities that inform investment, partnership, and contracting opportunities.
Assist in evaluating how regional infrastructure and policy developments may impact operations, subsidiaries, and long-term growth.
Collaborate with government relations, communications, and business development teams to support positioning for federal, state, and private-sector opportunities.
Contribute to stakeholder engagement strategies that strengthen Calista’s reputation, protect corporate interests, and expand market opportunities.
Support initiatives that balance shareholder benefit with sustainable business growth, including regional economic development and job creation efforts.
Assist in developing materials that communicate the value of organizational activities to shareholders, tribal partners, and external stakeholders.
Collaborate with internal teams, including communications, government relations, and subsidiary leadership, to ensure external engagement aligns with corporate strategy.
Assist in developing and implementing community outreach and engagement plans that reflect tribal priorities and regional needs.
Track tribal concerns, resolutions, and emerging issues, ensuring timely internal coordination and strategic response.
Support data collection and outreach efforts such as surveys and community engagement initiatives to support long-term planning and advocacy strategies.
Ensure all engagement reflects respect for tribal sovereignty, self-determination, and culturally grounded practices.
Respond to inquiries from tribal partners and connect them with appropriate internal resources in a timely and professional manner.
Coordinate logistics for meetings, travel, and events, including scheduling, facilities, conference calls, and event planning for in-region and out-of-region activities.
Travel regularly throughout the Yukon-Kuskokwim Delta to engage directly with Tribal communities, community leaders, and regional stakeholders, supporting relationship building, consultation efforts, and on-the-ground coordination.
Assist and collaborate with the Yukon-Kuskokwim Regional Tribal Government to support regional priorities, strengthen intergovernmental coordination, and advance initiatives impacting Tribal communities.
Interpret and translate communications between English and Yup’ik to ensure messaging is culturally relevant, accessible, and clearly understood by Tribal partners, elders, and community members.
