About The Position

The Triage and Prevention Specialist will provide crisis response and coordination, brief individual counseling, public health and outreach services to students, and consult with parents and campus partners. This position will coordinate our daily emergency coverage and consult regularly with campus partners who support students in crises. This position will also coordinate Counseling Center prevention initiatives including public health campaigns and mental health-related trainings for the campus community.

Requirements

  • Masters
  • 3 - 5 years of related clinical experience is required.
  • Ability to assess and appropriately design clinical, preventive, and risk management psychological interventions to meet the needs of the college student population which are ever evolving, including many students with diagnosable mental health disorders.
  • Advanced knowledge and experience regarding suicide assessment and intervention and supervision of clinical staff providing these services, assessment of students exhibiting major mental health disorders, including psychotic episodes and bipolar disorders, and suicidal ideation.
  • Demonstrated skill in working well under pressure to prioritize and manage clinical situations, including transfer of clients to a higher level of care, when needed, and coordinating communication with community providers and campus partners.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Candidates must exhibit a sophisticated understanding and commitment to a culturally-focused developmental model and have a demonstrated ability to initiate and implement interventions that promote a healthy, inclusive campus environment and meet the mental health needs of the University community.
  • All candidates must be eligible to work in the United States and complete employment eligibility verification by the first day of employment at Loyola University Maryland, as required by law (e.g., Form I-9).

Responsibilities

  • Provide psychological services to students experiencing psychological disorders, crises, personal adjustment, developmental and/or psychological problems that require professional attention. Provide crisis intervention, initial assessments, brief individual and group psychotherapy, and clinical referral services. Assist with daytime psychological emergencies.
  • Provide consultation to Counseling Center staff regarding the more severe psychological cases. Provide consultation to concerned faculty, administrators and parents concerned about a student or involved in a student’s safety plan.
  • Participate in after-hours rotation as back-up to ProtoCall on-call service and Residence and Housing staff.
  • Provide outreach services to students and the campus community.
  • Present client case discussions for in-house staff conferences. Participate in monthly multicultural staff professional development. Provide trainings to staff on crisis management. Work with campus partners in meeting the needs of students who have experienced crises.
  • Coordinate Counseling Center prevention initiatives including annual public health campaigns and mental health-related trainings for students and staff, such as Mental Health First Aid.
  • Participate in professional associations and development activities to remain informed regarding new developments in the field.
  • Performs all other duties and responsibilities as assigned or directed by the supervisor. This may include attendance of and participation in required training for role.
