About The Position

Virginia Oncology Associates, the largest group of medical professionals in Hampton Roads and Northeast North Carolina devoted exclusively to cancer care and blood disorders, has an opportunity for a Triage RN to join our team! This position will be remote, with some in-office presence as needed. Requirements

  • Graduate from an accredited program for professional nursing education, BSN preferred.
  • Minimum of three years nursing experience, preferably in an oncology environment.
  • Current or pending oncology certification preferred.
  • Experience and knowledge of the purpose and use of medications in the treatment of cancer.
  • RN state license and current registration with the State Board of Nursing in practicing state required.
  • Current CPR certification required.
  • Must maintain continuing education requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Triages patient phone calls and documents relative information in the patients chart accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Demonstrates competent Oncology knowledge to include symptom management, patient assessment, drug therapies and patient education.
  • Assesses patient/family needs and provides teaching and other instructional information/material as needed. Demonstrates awareness of community resources available to patients and assists with referrals if necessary.
  • Manages patient medication refills requests via the triage line and records information in the patient chart in a timely manner.
  • Consults physician regarding dose modifications after triaging the patient regarding problems or symptom management, assessing labs, and reviewing the patients protocol or treatment plan.
  • Acts as a resource person to other clinical staff.
  • Maintains the privacy of all patient protected health information and complies with all applicable federal, state, and local privacy regulations including the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPPA) Privacy Rule.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
