About The Position

The Triage Counselor position at Oneida Behavioral Health involves performing brief intake screenings to assess clients' needs and provide appropriate recommendations for treatment. The role includes evaluating clients for inpatient care, conducting suicide and homicide assessments, and documenting clinical impressions for formal assignments to therapists or counselors. The counselor will also provide community outreach services, co-facilitate group therapy, and offer short-term counseling for clients in crisis. This position requires a strong understanding of mental health laws, regulations, and treatment principles, as well as the ability to work independently and maintain confidentiality.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of applicable federal, state, county, and local laws, regulations, and requirements.
  • Knowledge of DHS 35 and DHS 75 licensing requirements.
  • Knowledge of psychiatric and psychosocial assessment and treatment principles.
  • Skill in working with children, adolescents, and families.
  • Ability to assess patients' psychiatric and psychosocial needs.
  • Ability to communicate efficiently and effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Must complete Oneida Certification on Reporting Child Abuse and Neglect training within ninety (90) days of employment.
  • Must pass a pre-employment drug screening.
  • Must comply with Caregiver Law and Grant conditions criminal history checks as a condition of employment.

  • Ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with individuals of varying social and cultural backgrounds.
  • Willingness to obtain additional education and training.

Responsibilities

  • Perform brief intake screenings to determine the specific nature of the client's request for service.
  • Evaluate and assess for inpatient care as needed.
  • Conduct suicide and homicide assessments.
  • Document clinical impressions and recommendations for formal assignment to therapists or counselors.
  • Provide community outreach services and assess sites if needed.
  • Meet with assigned clients for brief service consultation and review registration paperwork.
  • Co-facilitate group therapy when primary therapists are unavailable.
  • Provide short-term counseling for clients in crisis, either over the phone and/or in person.
  • Facilitate inpatient hospitalization for primary therapists and/or psychiatrists.
  • Refer clients to other support services as needed.
