About The Position

Northwest Specialty Hospital is seeking a compassionate, patient-oriented Triage Coordinator (CMA) to join our Axis Spine team! Under the supervision of the medical provider and clinic leader, you will primarily be doing phone triage in this position. Duties will include answer live phone calls from patients and medically assess the patient’s needs, make clinical decisions as to whether the patient needs to be seen or sent to the Emergency Department to assess, knowledge of provider’s schedules and preferences with acute patient scheduling, and create proper triage documentation in patient’s chart. Other duties that the Triage Coordinator may assist with are rooming patients, record vital signs, administer injections, perform urinalysis, EKG testing, set up and clean up procedure rooms for in office procedures, properly discard all biohazard and sharps waste, and stock supplies. Must demonstrate good principles and practices of aseptic technique, knowledge of standard precautions, EKGs, urinalysis, including proper order of draw and processing specimens, and basic pharmacology. This position will also work closely with other departments as needed, to ensure the patient’s chart and information is complete to receive treatment. Works under stress and in situations that demand patience and tact while providing impeccable service. Requirements

  • Demonstrates eligibility for employment in the United States.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Proof of Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification.
  • Aware of standards of cleaning and performs in accordance with them.
  • Ability to relate and work effectively with others.
  • Demonstrated skills in verbal and written English communications for safe and effective patient care and to meet documentation standards.
  • Is aware of standard and performs in accordance with them.
  • Must be a Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) with an active certification with the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA) or National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT) or National Healthcareer Association (NHA) or have an active Idaho Licensed Practical Nursing License.
  • At least 1 year of experience as CMA or LPN required.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of CPT, ICD-10 codes and medical terminology preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assess patients over the phone.
  • Medically assess patient’s needs and make clinical decisions on next steps in their care.
  • Work with the medical team and providers to access patients.
  • Create proper triage documentation in chart.
  • Room patients as needed.
  • Educate patients on medications, special diets, and other physician-ordered instructions
  • Take patient information and medical histories.
  • Update patient information as needed.
  • Keeps information confidential and a HIPAA secure environment.
  • Assist with Certified Medical Assistant duties as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.
