The Trimmer/Climber Trainee position is a full-time, non-exempt role that reports to the Foreperson or General Foreperson. The essential functions of this role include trimming and removing trees by climbing with the aid of a ladder, safety belt, climbing line, or powered trimmer lift truck, as well as working from the ground using saws and pruners. Responsibilities also include cutting branches or trunk sections, lowering them to the ground, and using appropriate tools to fell trees or trim trunks into manageable pieces. The position requires spraying stumps and brush to prevent further growth, loading and unloading trucks with logs, stumps, brush, and debris, and feeding brush into a wood chipper. The trainee will also be responsible for repairing slight damage to lawns, fences, and walks caused by tree trimming, directing traffic, and keeping the work area clear and orderly. Training new employees on proper procedures and safeguarding employees and the public from hazards are also key responsibilities. The role involves working around hazardous equipment and in close proximity to energized power lines, as well as exposure to various weather conditions and nature. The trainee will help enforce on-the-job safety practices and maintain tools and equipment in proper working condition.
