Under supervision, the position involves performing skilled tree trimming that is horticulturally sound and enhances the aesthetic of the existing Landscape Maintenance Program. The role includes trimming and pruning trees on LMU properties, operating a chipper machine for debris disposal, diverting traffic flow, maintaining tools, administering safety programs, and representing LMU within the Facilities Management community.

  • Trim and prune existing trees on LMU properties, working from the ground, from ladders, and by climbing trees with the aid of ropes, climbers, seats, belts, and aerial lifts.
  • Operate a chipper machine for the disposal of debris and operate a forklift.
  • Divert traffic flow using street/safety delineators as needed and protect parked cars from falling debris.
  • Maintain tools required to perform the job.
  • Administer University safety programs as applicable to Grounds & Transportation personnel and equipment.
  • Represent LMU within the Facilities Management community and at professional organizations or associations, serve on committees as required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned or requested.
  • Typically a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Completion of technical or trade school or on-the-job training in grounds equipment, maintenance, and repair is preferred.
  • Minimum 3 years experience in tree trimming experiences that involved tree climbing.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the operation of a variety of tree maintenance equipment.
  • Basic tools, equipment, and techniques involved in tree maintenance work.
  • Growth characteristics of ornamental trees commonly found in landscape settings.
  • Ability to operate tree trimming equipment with skill and safety and perform minor repairs.
  • Exemplary communication skills (both written and oral).
  • Valid California driver's license and a satisfactory driving record.
  • Salary range $22.88 - $28.61, commensurate with education and experience.
