Additional responsibilities include spraying stumps and brush to prevent further growth, loading and unloading trucks with logs, stumps, brush, and debris, and feeding brush into a wood chipper. The trainee will also repair slight damage to lawns, fences, and walks caused by tree trimming, direct traffic, and keep trucks and work areas clear and orderly. Training new employees on proper procedures and safeguarding employees and the public from hazards in and around the work area are also key responsibilities. The position requires cooperation with customers, police, and fire departments when blocking streets or driveways, setting up barriers and warning signs, and performing tree and bucket rescue. The trainee must inspect tools and equipment, request repairs when necessary, and work around hazardous equipment and energized power lines. Exposure to excessive noise, various weather conditions, and nature is expected, and the trainee may work on rough terrain. The role also involves enforcing on-the-job safety practices and maintaining equipment in a clean and specified mechanical order.
