About The Position

The Tree Pruner position at the New York State Department of Transportation involves performing a variety of tasks in the care and maintenance of trees under supervision. Responsibilities include climbing trees to prune or trim them, rigging ropes and tackle for self and tools, cutting down trees using chain or hand saws, and maintaining tools and equipment. The candidate may also operate motor vehicles and light construction equipment occasionally. Additionally, the candidate will be required to perform snow and ice operations in areas other than the work location. Responsibilities may also include serving a role within the Incident Command System to support the department's response to regional and statewide emergency situations.

Requirements

• Six months of experience climbing and pruning trees.
• Must meet the physical and medical standards.
• Possess a valid New York State driver's license appropriate for the type of vehicle to be operated.
• Pass a pre-employment physical/medical examination and drug test.

Nice To Haves

• A valid CDL A or B.
• A current (less than 2 years old) CDL Medical Certificate (MCSA 5876).
