About The Position

HGL is currently seeking an experienced Treatment Plant Operator in Hastings, NE. This position is to operate and maintain the Groundwater Extraction and Treatment System (GETS) at the Former Blaine NAD project site located in Hastings, Nebraska. The GETS consists of a main treatment plant, 9 well control houses, 20 groundwater extraction wells, and 6 UV treatment units located in some of the well control houses. Systems within the treatment plant include a desktop computer (Human Machine Interface [HMI]), an equalization tank, two air stripper feed pumps, two packed air stripper towers, and an acid wash pumping system for cleaning the air stripper packing media. The position requires an onsite Operator to operate and monitor the GETS, the office trailer, and Soil Repository located across the project Site. The position does require the Operator to check the HMI during the day while in the office and after hours with an iPad. The Operator may need to respond to alarms after hours. The Operator will need to interact with the local property owners and on occasion interact with the public on an as needed basis. The Operator position is full-time and permanent and requires working both indoors and outdoors, in all weather conditions. Occasional periods of heavy physical labor (shoveling, lifting, etc.) are required. Occasional periods may warrant operation of equipment such as a skid steer or manlift if the Operator is qualified. The position is 40 hours per week Monday through Friday with an occasional need to work on a weekend and/or holiday to address and/or respond to alarms.

Requirements

  • A minimum of three (3) years of relevant work experience.
  • A High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Mechanical and electrical aptitude to perform preventative maintenance, troubleshoot, and repair equipment.
  • Candidate must be able to follow instructions, both verbally and written, covering all critical Site work activities and standard operating procedures (SOP’s).
  • Basic working knowledge of computers and Windows software.
  • Strong team member skills and a proven ability to work with minimal supervision.

Nice To Haves

  • Minimum of three (3) years' industrial experience, mechanical and electrical aptitude, and the ability to work independently.
  • Water and wastewater treatment certification by the State of Nebraska or ability to obtain them.
  • Basic knowledge of chemical handling and safety.

Responsibilities

  • Operating and monitoring the GETS which includes a treatment plant facility with various treatment systems. Goal is to maintain a high uptime of the treatment plant.
  • Performing surface and groundwater sampling activities for the GETS. Assist in taking groundwater level measurements and sampling for the annual Remedial Action Monitoring event.
  • Performing basic preventive maintenance inspections and service on the GETS treatment plant, buildings, and equipment.
  • Performing basic weed control, mowing, and interior and exterior maintenance of treatment buildings and office trailer.
  • Performing weed control utilizing a utility vehicle on top of rip rap grade control structures.
  • Performing weed control, mowing, inspections, filling rodent holes, sampling, and maintaining the leachate discharge system at the OU4 Soil Repository.
  • Snow removal operating various methods including snow blower and shovel.
  • Working out of and maintaining and cleaning the office trailer.
  • Maintaining overall project health and safety for personnel and equipment on site.
