About The Position

The position involves working under administrative direction and requires advanced level knowledge of state and federal guidelines regarding water and/or sewage treatment plant operations. The role includes managing the operation and maintenance program for large water treatment and wastewater treatment plants serving both the institution and neighboring communities. Responsibilities also encompass overseeing the operation of treatment plant laboratories, conducting chemical and bacteriological testing, and supervising and training treatment plant staff. The position requires regular inspections of facilities to ensure compliance with regulations and to assess the condition of mechanical equipment.

Requirements

  • Certificate of class at least equal to that required by water system and/or wastewater works classification pursuant to Rule 3745-7-02, Environmental Protection Agency.
  • 24 months of experience as a treatment plant operator in water and/or sewage treatment plant, including conducting routine laboratory tests on treatment plant flows.
  • 12 months of training or 12 months of experience in supervisory principles/techniques.
  • Valid driver's license.

Responsibilities

  • Manages operation and maintenance program for large water treatment and wastewater treatment plants.
  • Oversees operation of treatment plant laboratory and chemical and bacteriological testing.
  • Supervises and trains treatment plant staff.
  • Inspects facilities to ensure mechanical equipment is maintained and operated according to regulations.
  • Conducts on-site investigations of inoperable equipment.
  • Inspects elevated tanks' condition and cathodic protection system.
  • Evaluates conditions of plants and equipment and instructs personnel in corrective action.
  • Evaluates preventive maintenance program and conducts safety and health inspections.
  • Prepares safety programs and meets with OEPA and Health Department regarding plant operations.
  • Consults with district treatment plant coordinators on troubleshooting problems.
  • Reviews design drawings and specifications for water and sewage plant installations.
  • Develops and writes specifications for new equipment and maintenance manuals.
  • Researches, gathers, and compiles information for records and reports.
  • Plans, develops, and submits management plans for land application of sludge for OEPA approval.
  • Makes necessary repairs or adjustments on equipment and keeps equipment in stock for on-spot repairs.
  • Attends annual training, meetings, and/or serves on committees.
