The Treatment Plant Aide assists with the operation of the water distribution system and maintenance of wastewater treatment plant facilities. Responsibilities include assisting with water and wastewater and sewage plant operations, which encompass tasks such as backwashing filters, regenerating softeners, setting blow-down controls, cleaning diffusers, comminutors, trickling filters, and bar screens, adjusting air flow and raw water flow, disinfection, solid handling, maintaining lagoons, and reading water meters. The role also involves performing daily chemical tests on water and sewage plant effluent, including alkalinity, pH, dissolved oxygen, and turbidity. The Aide will monitor and assist with the installation of piping, valve stems, belts, and fittings, as well as set up, collect, and deliver water samples daily to the state lab for analysis. Additional responsibilities include performing basic electrical, plumbing, and construction repairs, along with grounds and housekeeping duties as needed. The work schedule will involve shifts, which can be day, afternoon, or night, and the position is subject to 24-hour call-back/stand-by for emergency maintenance and repair after normal working hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
