About The Position

The Treasurer at Bixby First Methodist Church is responsible for managing and maintaining the Finance Office, overseeing all accounting activities, and ensuring accurate financial reporting. This part-time role involves collaboration with the Senior Pastor and Finance Committee to handle financial functions, payroll, and compliance with lender relations, while also serving as a positive Christian role model within the church community.

Requirements

• Bachelor Degree in Accounting or a related field.
• Demonstrated accounting and controller experience within a complex organization.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Comprehensive knowledge of accounting procedures and practices.
• Ability to exercise judgment and discretion in financial matters.
• Ability to monitor and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
• Strong communication skills and ability to work as part of a team.

Nice To Haves

• CPA certification (preferred)
• Experience with GAAP (5 years preferred)

Responsibilities

• Manage all accounting activities including day-to-day functions for the church.
• Process, pay, and account for vendor invoices.
• Analyze general ledger accounts and resolve outstanding issues.
• Prepare monthly financial statements for various church committees and councils.
• Attend Finance Committee and Church Council meetings as requested.
• Assist in preparing monthly bank reconciliations.
• Perform year-end closing routines on the accounting system.
• Prepare and support the annual outside audit process.
• Manage clergy and staff salary and compensation packages, including payroll processing and benefit enrollment.
• Administer employee health, disability, cafeteria, and 403(b) pension plans.
• Track vacation and sick leave accounts for all church staff.
• Manage reporting for lender relations, including processing payments and submitting financial statements.
• Prepare annual reports and forms for the Heartland Annual Conference.
• Complete other duties as assigned by the Senior Pastor.
