About The Position

The traveling surgeon is expected to be highly skilled in advanced surgical procedures for companion animals providing a resource to our patients and clients who could not have otherwise received the services. The DVM would be expected to travel to any of the Lovet Pet Health Care locations in the Phoenix metro area to perform surgery based on caseload and availability. The majority of the caseload would be orthopedic procedures requiring expertise in this area. Advanced soft tissue surgeries would make up a portion of the skill set required. The DVM would be a contributing member to the growth and training of other DVMs in the company looking to advance their surgical skill set. Compensation will be a base salary of $200,000 - $250,000+ (commensurate with experience) plus production percentage. Earning potential is unlimited, typically $300,000+.

Requirements

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Working knowledge of state and federal labor laws and regulations as they relate to DVM general practice and surgery.
  • Considerable expertise in veterinary medicine with medicine on advanced surgical procedures.
  • Confident in anesthesia utilizing up to date multimodal pain control approach for various ASA statuses.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
  • A valid, Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) license in good standing.
  • 5+ years of experience in clinical veterinary medicine required with emphasis on advanced surgery and orthopedic surgeries.
  • Maintain up to date and current industry standards on surgical procedures and perioperative care.

Responsibilities

  • Acts as a brand ambassador, always exhibiting the Lovet core values.
  • Highly skilled in advanced companion animal soft tissue surgeries including GI surgeries, PUs, splenectomies, etc. as performed in a GP setting.
  • Highly skilled in orthopedic surgeries including TPLO, fracture repair, luxating patellas, other CCL procedures, etc. as performed in a GP setting.
  • Ability to work with multiple teams and multiple locations
  • Coordinate schedule to accommodate caseload at Lovet locations.
  • Maintain open communication with onsite leadership at various locations regarding upcoming cases.
  • Proficient client communication regarding procedures, outcomes, aftercare, risks, etc.
  • Act as a resource for Lovet DVMs improving their surgical skills and/or learning new procedures to include email, phone, in person discussions and scrubbing in side by side.
  • Act as a resource to aid in development and implementation of surgical training and development programs for DVMs.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
