About The Position

The Tepa Companies are seeking a Journeyman III Electrician who is responsible for installing and repairing complex electrical control, wiring, and lighting systems working from a technical blueprint.

Requirements

  • State-issued electrician’s license is required
  • 6 years verified trade experience
  • 3 years verified Industrial/Fuels experience
  • Must have an advanced working knowledge of various test equipment
  • Must have an advanced knowledge of electrical systems, power generation, blueprints, and maintenance and repair
  • Must be able to communicate clearly with Superintendents, Operators, Laborers, and all other personnel on site
  • Must be able to understand, read, and write in English
  • Must be able to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and written instructions
  • Must have a working knowledge of the National Electric Code, and applicable Unified Facilities Guide Specifications and Unified Facilities Criteria
  • Must be able to troubleshoot and have a strong attention to detail
  • Must be able to pass a drug test and a background check required to access US military installations
  • Must have a valid driver’s license

Responsibilities

  • Plans new or modified installations to minimize waste of materials, provide access for future maintenance, and avoid unsightly, hazardous, and unreliable wiring, consistent with specifications and local electrical codes
  • Prepares sketches showing location of wiring and equipment, or follows diagrams or blueprints, ensuring that concealed wiring is installed before completion of future walls, ceilings, and flooring
  • Measures, cuts, bends, threads, assembles, and installs electrical conduit, using tools, such as hacksaw, pipe threader, and conduit bender
  • Pulls wiring through conduit, assisted by electrician helper
  • Splices wires by stripping insulation from terminal leads, using knife or pliers, twisting or soldering wires together, and applying tape or terminal caps
  • Connects wiring to lighting fixtures and power equipment, using hand tools
  • Connects power cables to equipment, such as electric range or motor, and installs grounding leads
  • Tests continuity of circuit to ensure electrical compatibility and safety of components, using testing instruments, such as ohmmeter, battery and buzzer, and oscilloscope
  • Observes functioning of installed equipment or system to detect hazards and need for adjustments, relocation, or replacement
  • Repairs faulty equipment or systems
  • Cuts and welds steel structural members, using flame-cutting and welding equipment
