About The Position

IMTAS is hiring part-time, traveling, cable technicians to work in various locations throughout the United States. The Cabling Installation Technician is responsible for performing the installation of premise network cabling systems. The On-site Cabling Team Lead is responsible for directing and leading a crew, as well as participating in the installation of premise network cabling systems at stateside and overseas FBI offices.

Requirements

  • Must be highly proficient in the installation and test of premise cabling, connections, patch cords, patch panels, equipment enclosures/cabinets, cable tray, PDS conduit, and associated hardware.
  • Possess a demonstrated ability in reading and interpreting system installation drawings and design packages, and applying that knowledge to the cabling installation, and promoting a safe work environment and implementing safe work practices.
  • Must be proficient in the proper handling, installation, of LC, MTRJ, SC and RJ45 connector termination, and testing of fiber-optic and copper cabling systems.
  • Must be proficient in the installation of various types of cable tray, PDS, and EMT conduit up to 4 inches.
  • A minimum of two (2) years experience in the installation of copper and fiber-optic cable plants is required.
  • Must possess a valid Driver's License.
  • Must be confined space certified for outside plant installations.
  • Permit-Required Confined Spaces Certification.
  • Forklift Certification.
  • Aerial and Scissor Lifts Certification.

Nice To Haves

  • Building Industry Consulting Service International (BICSI) Installer 1 (INST1) certification.
  • BICSI Installer 2, Copper (INSTC) certification.
  • BICSI Installer 2, Optical Fiber (INSTF) certification.

Responsibilities

  • Install, label and test premise cabling, connections, patch panels, equipment enclosures/cabinets, cable tray, Protective Distribution System (PDS) conduit, and associated hardware.
  • Updating cable run sheets and other documentation as required.
  • Read and interpret system installation drawings and design packages, and apply that knowledge to cabling installations.
  • Install LC, MTRJ, SC and RJ45 connector termination, and test fiber-optic and copper cabling systems.
  • Labeling of cables and associated hardware according to standards and cable run sheets.
  • Install various types of cable tray, Protective Distribution Systems (PDS) and EMT conduit up to 4 inches.
  • Able to fusion splice fiber optic cable.
  • Serve as the subject matter expert in reading and interpreting system installation drawings and design packages.
  • Promote a safe work environment and implement safe work practices.
  • Provide guidance and perform quality assurance checks for subordinate cabling personnel in the installation of LC, MTRJ, SC and RJ45 connector termination, and testing of fiber-optic and copper cabling systems.
