About The Position

The Traveling Business Development Representative is responsible for identifying and developing new business opportunities through direct customer engagement, onsite visits, and industry presence. This role focuses on building relationships in the field, expanding market awareness, and supporting the growth of the company’s sales pipeline through face-to-face interaction at trade shows, industry days, and government related evens. The position plays a critical role in representing the company to customers, partners, and industry organizations. This role operates primarily in the field with frequent domestic travel to customer sites, trade shows, and industry events. When not traveling, the position works remotely or from a company office as needed, collaborating closely with internal teams including sales, engineering, operations, and leadership.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Marketing, Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent experience)
  • 3+ years of experience in business development, sales, or customer-facing roles
  • Experience in B2B, technical, or manufacturing environments preferred
  • Willingness and ability to travel frequently (often 50%+ of the time)
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills
  • Comfortable engaging customers in person and representing the company externally
  • Self-directed with strong time management and organizational skills
  • Ability to learn and communicate technical products and services
  • Results-oriented with a proactive approach to relationship building

Responsibilities

  • Identify and pursue new business opportunities through onsite customer visits and in-person meetings
  • Develop and maintain a strong pipeline of qualified leads and opportunities
  • Represent the company at trade shows, conferences, and industry events
  • Research target markets, customers, and regional opportunities to support growth
  • Build and maintain strong, long-term relationships with new and existing customers
  • Serve as a primary point of contact during early-stage customer engagement
  • Gather customer requirements and communicate needs to internal teams
  • Support account growth through repeat business and referral opportunities
  • Partner with engineering, operations, and program teams to align customer needs with company capabilities
  • Support proposal development, pricing inputs, and contract discussions
  • Coordinate internal resources to ensure timely follow-up and customer responsiveness
  • Track activity, leads, and opportunities using CRM tools
  • Provide regular updates on travel activity, pipeline status, and customer feedback
  • Share market intelligence and competitive insights with leadership
