As a CVICU RN, you’ll care for critically ill cardiac surgery patients in the immediate post-operative period and beyond. Your responsibilities include managing post-op stabilization, optimizing hemodynamics, titrating vasopressors and inotropes, and overseeing invasive lines such as arterial and central venous access. You’ll monitor continuous telemetry and invasively tracked pressures, interpret arterial blood gases and laboratory data, and respond rapidly to rhythm disturbances or clinical decompensation. Collaboration is essential: you’ll work closely with surgeons, perfusionists, cath lab teams, respiratory therapists, pharmacists, nutritionists, and social workers to coordinate comprehensive, patient-centered care. You’ll contribute to infection control measures, sedation and analgesia plans, accurate documentation, and adherence to evidence-based protocols. Participation in rounds, case reviews, quality improvement initiatives, and ongoing professional education will support your growth within CVICU practice.
