About The Position

The International Mission Board is seeking a Travel Coordinator to orchestrate International & Assignment‑Based travel for their teams. This role, located in Rockville, VA, is full-time with a hybrid schedule after a training period. The Travel Coordinator provides hands‑on travel coordination for individuals and families during key assignment and life transitions, supporting international, medical, education‑related, and emergency travel. This often involves long timelines, family dynamics, and sensitive circumstances. The coordinator serves as a primary point of contact from initial planning through ticketing and follow‑up, offering accurate, policy‑aligned guidance with a high level of care, responsiveness, and attention to detail.

Requirements

  • Associate degree preferred or equivalent experience
  • 1-3 years of travel coordination experience, preferably involving international or complex itineraries
  • Experience supporting long‑term or case‑based travel (humanitarian, nonprofit, or assignment‑based travel strongly preferred)
  • Familiarity with Concur, Sabre, or similar travel systems preferred
  • Strong organizational skills with high attention to detail and follow‑through
  • Ability to manage changing priorities without sacrificing accuracy or care
  • Calm, thoughtful decision‑making under pressure
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong working knowledge of world geography and international travel patterns
  • Awareness of geopolitical conditions and how global events can affect travel planning, routing, and traveler readiness
  • Sensitivity to cultural and organizational values when supporting individuals and families

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate end‑to‑end international travel for individuals and families traveling to, from, or between assignments
  • Manage complex travel cases from intake through ticketing, changes, and follow‑up
  • Communicate clearly and compassionately about itinerary options, tradeoffs, and timing
  • Coordinate urgent, medical, or short‑notice travel calmly and accurately
  • Remain responsive and detail‑oriented during time‑sensitive or high‑stress situations
  • Coordinate travel for teenagers and young adults connected to assignment‑based families
  • Support travel for: Boarding school attendance or transitions
  • Support travel for: Travel between college and parents serving internationally
  • Communicate clearly with young travelers and parents to ensure safe, smooth execution
  • Book and manage travel using approved tools and processes, including Concur and Sabre as applicable
  • Assist travelers with booking questions and travel policy guidance
  • Partner effectively with travel agents to ensure accurate and timely ticketing
  • Maintain working knowledge of airline pricing, fare rules, international routings, documentation, and travel restrictions
  • Stay informed on global travel conditions that impact international and long-term travel
  • Contribute to process improvements and standard workflows related to assignment‑based travel
