About The Position

The primary responsibilities of the Trauma Registrar Tier I are data collection, data entry, and reporting of the data in the trauma registry. This position demonstrates accuracy and confidentiality in the handling of all trauma registry related matters. A Trauma Registrar Tier I supports the Trauma Program by maintaining the trauma registry and by using clinical and financial databases tool to identify and analyze opportunities for improvement. The registrar provides clinical and financial data to the trauma division focusing on performance improvement, with the goal of improving patient care and the financial viability of the program. Requirements

Associate degree in health-related field required. Bachelor’s Degree in health-related field preferred.
LPN, RN, or Paramedic licensed with the State of Michigan preferred.
ICD-10, AIS, and Trauma Registry course required within one year of hire or transfer.
Trauma Registry experience.
Computer proficiency in Microsoft Office, EXCEL, ICD-10, CPT, DRG, AIS and ISS coding.
Knowledge and proficiency in medical and hospital terminology, anatomy, pathophysiology, and pharmacology required.
Working knowledge of database design, interfacing between EPIC and trauma registry.
Verbal and written communication skills.
Computer software program for data handling.
Proficiency in data entry.
Ability to maintain regular, punctual attendance consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards.
Frequent sitting, talking and hearing.
Frequent near, midrange, and far vision.
Frequent depth perception.
Frequent lifting 0-25 lbs.
Occasional standing, walking, lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, climbing, balancing, twisting, reaching, handling, feeling, taste/smell and vision accommodation.

Responsibilities

Adheres to general hospital standards to promote a cooperative work environment by utilizing communication skills, interpersonal skills, interpersonal relationships, and team building by following hospital policies and procedures, contributing to the overall quality of services, and assuming responsibility for keeping informed about changes in policies and procedures.
Maintains a comprehensive listing of Pediatric and Adult trauma patients by careful review of the Emergency Department admissions logs and Trauma Patient Report.
Ensures accuracy of the Trauma Registry data by abstracting the patient’s chart for trauma registry data points in a timely manner, assigning codes for diagnoses and procedures pertinent to the patient’s visit by utilizing the ICD-10 CM classification system, entering accurately into computer trauma patient data, ensuring the maintenance of the trauma registry database through frequent data backup, and collecting additional data as requested by the Trauma Medical Director and Manager.
Maintains documentation and accurate records of the trauma registry activity by conducting data cleaning and data validation.
Assists in trauma service activities including assisting and preparing monthly and quarterly reports.
Participates in professional development to assure skills and knowledge of trauma data information.
Demonstrates effective communication methods and skills, using lines of authority appropriately by formulating and using effective working relationships with all department staff, patients, families, and others, by maintaining confidentiality with all information in the appropriate manner, and establishing and maintaining continued communication between staff via written and verbal means.
Attends and participates in departmental meetings.
Demonstrates commitment to customer service.
