About The Position

The Trauma Registrar is responsible for following all policies and procedures associated with the coding classification schemes to assign diagnostic and procedural codes to the trauma patient population. Participates in the American College of Surgeons accreditation/site survey process by assisting with compilation, preparation and presentation of data. Supports and participates in the research efforts of the Division of Trauma and Cooper University Hospital. Participates in the data validation and report preparation and generation as needed Assist with the creation of an Institutional Data Dictionary and provide timely review Supports and participates in the research efforts of the Division of Trauma And Cooper University Hospital Participates in the American College of Surgeons accreditation/site survey process by assisting with compilation, preparation and presentation of data Responsible for training of new employees and overseeing monthly registrar education Responsible for following all policies and procedures associated with the coding classification schemes to assign diagnostic and procedural codes to the trauma patient population Abstracts data from patient charts in an accurate and timely manner with minimal variances

Requirements

  • Previous experience as a Trauma registrar, or similar health-related experience such as a RN, EMT, CNA, medical coder, HIM, etc. required
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent Required AND Medical Terminology Course or Equivalent Experience.
  • Per the American College of Surgeons Regulations for Trauma Registrars each registrar must complete a Trauma Registry Course, ICD-10 Coding Course and AAAM Coding Course within one year of hire.
  • Each Trauma Registrar must maintain eight trauma related continuing education hours each year

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience in Trauma, chart auditing, AAAM Coding, ICD9 & 10 codes, medical procedure coding strongly preferred.

Responsibilities
