About The Position

Responsible for maintaining the trauma registry data base to include patient identification, abstraction, coding and entering data; retrieval and presentation of registry data for quality improvement, education and research. Works closely with the Trauma PI coordinator to ensure accurate statistical trauma data. Requirements

  • Work experience with knowledge of ICD 10 trauma coding, AIS scoring, and 2-3 years of medical record and/or coding experience/database entry required.
  • Graduation from an accredited program or University in a health care related field or in Health Information Technology is preferred. High School Diploma or GED is required.
  • HIM Coding Specialist (CCS or RHIT certified) desirable
  • Basic Trauma Registry Course - within one year of hire
  • AAAM AIS Course - within one year of hire
  • ICD refresher course - every 5 years
  • AAAM Certification Abbreviated Injury Scale Specialist (CAISS)
  • Registrar with less than one year of registry experience must achieve CAISS within 3 years of hire
  • Register with greater than three years of registry experience must achieve CAISS by 01/2026 or within a year of hire.
  • Knowledge of Registries desirable
  • Excellent computer skills necessary to manage and manipulate a large database
  • Computer and internet skill and experience including familiarity and comfort with Windows and MS office to include Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint
  • Proficiency in the review and abstraction of clinical patient information from a medical record
  • Mathematical ability necessary to validate and analyze data
  • Excellent organizational skills; detailed orientated; able to work independently as workload varies on a daily basis; able to meet deadlines.
  • Interpersonal skills necessary to interact effectively with physicians and other staff
