About The Position

The Trauma Program Coordinator (TPC) at Riverside Healthcare in Kankakee, Illinois, is responsible for the development, implementation, and maintenance of a comprehensive and cost-effective system of care for trauma patients and their families throughout the continuum of care. The TPC collaborates closely with the trauma program medical director, healthcare team members, and management staff to ensure optimal trauma care. This role requires a self-directed, self-motivated professional who can plan and execute tasks with minimal supervision while regularly reporting progress to the Director of Nursing.

Requirements

  • A minimum of three years of clinical experience in trauma or emergency care.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective interpersonal relationships.
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills with the ability to implement change effectively.
  • Critical thinking, analytical, teaching/coaching, and research skills.
  • Currently licensed as a Registered Nurse (RN) in the State of Illinois.
  • Certification in Trauma Nurse Core Course (TNCC) or Trauma Nurse Specialist (TNS) required.
  • Certified CPR, Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), or Emergency Nurse Pediatric Course (ENPC) Instructor
  • Bachelors Degree in Nursing (BSN) required.

Responsibilities

  • System of Care Management: Develop, implement, and maintain a cost-effective and comprehensive system of care for trauma patients from admission through discharge and follow-up care.
  • Policy Development: Collaborate with the medical director, hospital administration, and clinicians to assess the need for, develop, and implement policies, procedures, and protocols that enhance trauma patient care.
  • Injury Prevention Program: Coordinate and oversee the development and implementation of injury prevention programs targeted at reducing trauma incidents within the community.
  • Community Education: Direct community trauma education and prevention programs by developing, implementing, and evaluating initiatives for targeted populations based on community needs assessments.
  • Program Evaluation: Assess and improve departmental and organizational performance in trauma care, ensuring that the trauma program meets all regulatory requirements and best practices.
  • Staff Education: Plan, coordinate, and evaluate trauma-related educational programs for nursing staff to ensure they are equipped with the latest knowledge and skills in trauma care.
  • Budget Management: Prepare and manage the trauma program budget, ensuring resources are allocated effectively to support program initiatives and goals.
  • Committee Representation: Represent the Trauma Program on various hospital and community committees, fostering relationships that enhance and support optimal trauma care management.
  • Program Supervision: Supervise adherence to hospital policies, procedures, and standards related to trauma care through observation, medical record reviews, and staff feedback.
  • Change Management: Facilitate the acceptance and implementation of changes within the trauma program, promoting continuous improvement and adaptation to new standards of care.
  • Research and Innovation: Engage in research activities, contributing to the advancement of trauma care practices and the implementation of evidence-based improvements.
  • Community Liaison: Serve as a liaison to administration, representing the Trauma Program on community and hospital committees to promote a fiscally responsible and effective trauma care system
