About The Position

The Trauma Performance Improvement Coordinator will be accountable to strengthen the Trauma Centers' Performance Improvement and Patient Safety. The RN selected for this position will monitor safety performance and data collection for the Trauma Center with an eye toward process improvement. Key to this role is identifying, bringing forward, and recommending solutions for possible issues. The Trauma Performance Improvement Coordinator is responsible for monitoring and evaluating clinical and regulatory performance of Massachusetts General Hospital ACS verified Level I Adult and Pediatric Trauma Center. This work encompasses all facets of patient care ranging from prehospital to discharge. This position monitors PI indicators and initiates and directs action plans to achieve and maintain Level 1 Verification. The Trauma Performance Improvement Coordinator manages, coordinates and documents real-time chart reviews and plans, prepares and coordinates quality initiatives. The Performance Improvement Coordinator is supervised by the Nursing Director of the Trauma Center.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree required; current Massachusetts RN licensure required.
  • Master's degree in healthcare related field preferred.
  • 5+ years knowledge of professional clinical practice, clinical processes, and the appropriateness of clinical interventions.
  • Prior trauma clinical/research or other strong clinical background required.
  • Prior Adult and Pediatric experience at a Level I or II trauma center desired.
  • Database management and analysis experience preferred.
  • TNCC certification within 6 months of hire required; TNCC instructor within 12 months of hire preferred.
  • ATLS certification preferred.
  • Experience in health care and patient safety quality measurement, reporting, and improvement desired.
  • Previous leadership or project management experience preferred.
  • Competence with MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, required for this position.

Nice To Haves

  • Trauma Operations and Performance Improvement (TOPIC) Course to be completed within 12 months of hire.

Responsibilities

  • Works closely with the Adult and Pediatric Trauma Medical Director, Nurse Director of Trauma, Emergency Surgery and Surgical Critical Care and Pediatric Trauma Program Manager to identify and develop programs to address opportunities for improvement.
  • Provides ongoing education to trauma team members on best practices, quality improvement initiatives, and new protocols.
  • Assists the team leaders in identifying barriers to implementing improvement plans/processes and develops strategies to overcome these barriers.
  • Maintains working knowledge of the National Trauma Data Standard (NTDS) and American College of Surgeons Trauma Quality Improvement Program (TQIP) data definitions.
  • Collaborates with the registry staff in collection of retrospective data that meets TQIP/NTDS data definitions for Trauma Registry Admission.
  • Works closely with registry staff to collect, analyze, and report trauma registry data to identify process inefficiencies and clinical performance issues.
  • Prepares all confidential case summaries for weekly Trauma Performance Improvement Peer Review.
  • Regularly attends relevant Trauma Services meetings to provide recommendations based on data collection and professional input.
  • Collaborates with the Nurse Director in the development and review of patient care policies and nursing and practice standards associated with projects for the service line.
