MercyOne operates two hospital-based skilled nursing units and a 40-bed nursing home. In recognition of the strength of its nursing service and the overall quality of patient care, MercyOne Dubuque has been designated a Magnet hospital four consecutive times - the nation's most prestigious award for nursing excellence. We are looking to hire a Trauma Coordinator, RN in our Emergency Department!

Requirements

  • Current RN license: BSN required.
  • TNCC Instructor certification (or obtain within 1 year of hire).
  • Nursing certification (or obtain within 1 year of hire).
  • Child and Dependent Adult Abuse Mandatory Reporter Training is required within 6 months of hire and every 3 years thereafter.
  • Minimum of 2 years of trauma/critical care nursing experience.
  • EMS experience desired.

  • Demonstrated experience and competency with e-mail and a variety of web-based programs.
  • Willingness and ability to update and increase skills as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Adheres to the principles of caring and expected behaviors outlined in Mercy One Dubuque Medical Center's Model of Caring and Trinity Health's Code of Conduct.
  • Maintains a working knowledge of applicable Federal, State, and local laws and regulations.
  • Displays effective communication with a polite, compassionate, and caring attitude.
  • Demonstrates customer friendly behaviors and promotes customer satisfaction.
  • Represents Mercy One Dubuque at Iowa trauma meetings.
  • Develops multidisciplinary trauma educational programs.
  • Works closely with the Trauma Program Medical Director to develop a quality trauma program.
  • Develops a quality improvement plan utilizing the trauma registry and concurrent patient review.
  • Addresses quality issues with nurses, physicians and EMS involved in the continuum of trauma care.
  • Maintains the trauma registry.
  • Coordinates and acts as a resource in injury prevention activities.
  • Teaches TNCC and acts as course director of the TNCC program.
  • Organizes and coordinates Trauma Committee meetings.
  • Assists in the ED when needed to help with patient flow.
  • Shares trauma, EMS and PEDS data with ED staff and physicians.
  • Liaises between Mercy One and EMS to create a strong working relationship.
  • Audits EMS charts to find trends that may need to be addressed.
  • Provides EMS data to other departments as needed.
  • Works with Stroke Coordinator to improve pre-hospital care for patients.
  • Assists EMS Medical Directors with the review of quality data.
  • Coordinates the Dubuque County Drug Box Exchange Program.
  • Provides education to ED staff on new or changing EMS practices.
  • Acts as a resource to ED staff regarding HazMat and decontamination practices.
  • Participates in pediatric performance improvement activities.
  • Coordinates the Pediatric Emergency Medicine meetings.
  • Creates and revises emergency pediatric policies.
  • Participates in pediatric injury prevention programs.
  • Assists the Emergency Department director with scheduling and payroll.
  • Performs other duties consistent with purpose of job as directed.
