The Trauma Data Abstractor plays a crucial role in the abstraction of data for injured patients, contributing to the overall success of the healthcare organization. This position involves reviewing medical records and ensuring compliance with various regulatory and accreditation standards, ultimately impacting patient care and community health.

  • Complete abstraction process for assigned facility/facilities, including abstraction of cases into required systems (e.g., Traumabase, Digital Innovations, TraumaOne, or Imagetrend).
  • Review medical records to abstract information according to the standards of various regulatory and accreditation agencies (e.g., ACS, NTDB, TQIP, and state regulations).
  • Submit data timely through the appropriate reporting system.
  • Resolve errors resulting in the rejection of records from the data entry system.
  • High School education/GED required.
  • Undergraduate (Associate or Bachelor) degree or successful completion of a certified coding program preferred.
  • Trauma Abstracting experience preferred.
  • 1 year in Health Information Management; Coding, Nursing, and/or Health Registry abstraction experience preferred.
  • Certificate/License: RHIA, RHIT, CSS, LVN or RN preferred.
  • Experience in Health Information Management or related fields.
  • Familiarity with trauma data abstraction systems.
