About The Position

This is a part time position working as a Trauma Coordinator in the Emergency Department at Northwest Medical Center - Level III Trauma. Job Summary The Trauma Coordinator is responsible for coordinating and maintaining a comprehensive trauma program, including system development, quality improvement, and staff education. This role manages the trauma registry, supports accreditation processes, and serves as a liaison for internal and external stakeholders. The Trauma Coordinator works collaboratively with leadership and clinical teams to enhance trauma care delivery, ensure compliance with regulatory standards, and promote program growth. Essential Functions Serves as the primary liaison for trauma services, addressing issues and coordinating efforts with internal departments, medical staff, pre-hospital providers, and external agencies. Develops and maintains systems to support and sustain the trauma program, including patient care protocols, quality improvement initiatives, and staff education. Manages the trauma registry, ensuring accurate and timely data collection, analysis, and reporting to appropriate agencies and committees. Tracks and reports trends in trauma admissions, referrals, and outcomes, using data to identify opportunities for program improvement and growth. Collaborates with the Emergency Department Director, Chief Nursing Officer, Medical Director, and Quality Director to ensure alignment of trauma program goals with organizational objectives. Develops, implements, and updates policies, procedures, and objectives to meet trauma designation and accreditation requirements. Leads quality improvement activities related to trauma care, including case reviews, performance improvement initiatives, and outcome analysis. Supports the preparation and participation in accreditation, state licensing, and regulatory surveys, ensuring compliance with all standards. Coordinates education and training programs for staff, including trauma care protocols, advanced life support certifications, and outreach to pre-hospital providers. Develops and executes a strategic plan to achieve long- and short-term goals for the trauma program in alignment with institutional quality improvement plans. Provides leadership in responding to trauma-related emergencies, guiding staff and ensuring adherence to established protocols. Performs other duties as assigned. Complies with all policies and standards.

Requirements

  • 3-6 years of clinical nursing experience in emergency or trauma care required
  • In-depth knowledge of trauma systems, regulatory requirements, and accreditation standards.
  • Strong analytical skills to compile, analyze, and report data effectively.
  • Proficiency in managing trauma registries and using data to inform program improvements.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills to work with diverse stakeholders, including medical staff and regulatory agencies.
  • Ability to develop and implement policies, procedures, and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Leadership and organizational skills to manage program growth and accreditation processes.
  • Proficiency in trauma care protocols and advanced life support techniques.
  • RN - Registered Nurse - AZ State Licensure and/or Compact State Licensure required
  • BCLS - Basic Life Support issued by American Heart Association (AHA), American Red Cross (ARC), or American Safety and Health Institute (ASHI) required

Nice To Haves

  • CEN - Certified Emergency Room Nurse preferred or TNCC - Trauma Nursing Core Course preferred or ENPC - Emergency Nursing Pediatric Certification preferred or Clinical Area of Specialty Certification
  • Trauma Certified Registered Nurse (TCRN) preferred
