About The Position

The Trauma Call Coordinator (TCC) serves as a critical component within the Arkansas Trauma Communications Center (ATCC), providing real-time coordination between Emergency Medical Service (EMS) agencies and hospitals across the state. As the nation’s premier Trauma Coordination Center, this position assists to ensure patients are transported or transferred to the right facility, the first time, supporting optimal patient outcomes and system efficiency. The TCC operates in a high-acuity, fast-paced environment, leveraging clinical expertise, situational awareness, and critical thinking skills to support trauma activation, interfacility transfer coordination, specialty resource allocation, and statewide trauma-system performance.

Requirements

  • Nationally Registered Paramedic (NRP) – current and in good standing.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of paramedic experience.
  • Current Arkansas paramedic licensure (or ability to obtain within six months post hire).
  • Strong verbal communication, critical thinking, and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to work 12-hour shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays. Shifts are permanent and based on seniority, days or nights, rotating 12s (36hr / 48hr work weeks).
  • Must maintain BLS, ACLS, PALS certifications (company paid).
  • PALS may be obtained within six months of hire if not current.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in trauma systems, communications centers, dispatch, flight coordination, or interfacility transfer coordination.
  • Familiarity with trauma center capabilities, EMS operations, or regional medical systems.
  • Experience with electronic documentation systems, CAD, or healthcare data platforms.
  • Demonstrated interest in quality improvement, system performance, or healthcare coordination.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary coordination point for ground and rotor EMS agencies providing situational awareness and recommendations for destination decision, hospital trauma activations, interfacility transfers, and specialty consult routing within the Arkansas Trauma System.
  • Communicate effectively with EMS providers, emergency departments, trauma centers, specialty facilities, and on-call physicians.
  • Apply clinical judgment to assess patient acuity, mechanism of injury, and resource needs to support appropriate destination decisions.
  • Utilize trauma protocols, guidelines, and decision-support tools to facilitate timely and appropriate care coordination.
  • Accurately document calls, decisions, timelines, and outcomes in designated communication and data systems.
  • Maintain situational awareness of hospital status, diversion, bed availability, specialty coverage, and regional resources.
  • Support quality assurance, performance improvement, and data collection initiatives related to trauma system operations.
  • Participate in training, continuing education, drills, and system improvement activities.
  • Maintain professionalism and composure while managing high-stress, time-sensitive situations
