General Purpose of Job: Collects and accurately enters all required trauma registry data elements and ensures timely submission to the Texas Department of State Health Services in accordance with state-mandated reporting timeframes. Ensures the accuracy and integrity of trauma registry data to support trauma performance improvement activities. This positions functions under a single standardized Trauma Analyst job description; for full-time, Part-time and PRN staff. Core responsibilities are consistent; additional qualifications or oversight functions may be assigned to designated lead staff. Maintains the highest level of confidentiality at all times. Adheres to hospital policies, guidelines and procedures. Demonstrates business practices and personal actions that are ethical and adhere to corporate compliance and integrity guidelines. Demonstrates proficiency in computer applications, such as data entry, word processing spreadsheets, and presentation software. Maintains composure, effectiveness and flexibility under pressure. Requires a solid working understanding of medical terminology and the ability to apply ICD-10 codes in support of trauma registry abstraction and data validation. Must have strong organizational skills, the ability to prioritize workload, follow schedules, and meet deadlines. Applies analytical skills and established criteria to ensure accurate collection, interpretation, validation, and reporting of trauma data prior to submission. Must have excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to interact with individuals of diverse backgrounds and work in a team environment. Identifies patients meeting Trauma Registry inclusion, in accordance with American College of Surgeons (ACS) standards and state requirements throughout the patient’s admission. Collects, abstracts, and electronically enters all required trauma registry data in accordance with state reporting timeframes and trauma program guidelines Electronically uploads all trauma data to the state registry and National Trauma Data Bank (NTDB) quarterly and maintains documentation of download. Collaborates with Health Information Management and coding staff to resolve data abstraction and coding discrepancies. Compiles and analyzes reports for committees, providing backup and justifications for statistics. Performs special projects and assignments in support of trauma program operations as directed by trauma program leadership. Attends monthly trauma review committee, maintains a record of minutes. Coordinates the acquisition of missing information from EMS agencies and transferring hospitals. Assists in education of staff regarding requirements for audits related to trauma standards. Maintains trauma log and daily data abstraction. abstracts. Analyzes data for trends for use in injury prevention initiatives. Participates in required monthly and/or quarterly Regional Advisory Council (RAC) meetings.
