About The Position

We invite experienced Advanced Practice Providers to discover all that we can do when we bring healing hearts, inquisitive minds and progressive visionaries together in our Division of Acute Care Surgery team at Atrium Health-Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte, North Carolina. The successful candidate should be able to perform thorough history and physical assessment. Also, able to evaluate, assess, implement plans and monitor other co-morbid medical conditions secondary to critical illness or injury. Manage ventilator settings, vasopressors and solves complex clinical cases. Performs a variety of surgical procedures after privileging by Medical Staff to include: Chest Tube, Central Line, Arterial Lines, Bronchoscopy, and assist with bedside Tracheostomy and Percutaneous Gastrostomy Tube placement. The Division is organized into the Sections of Trauma, Surgical Critical Care, and Acute/Emergency General Surgery. Currently, there are 17 surgeons and 18 APPs in the Division. Trauma and Surgical Critical Care services are performed at Atrium Charlotte - a 874 bed, tertiary/quaternary care hospital, ACS-verified Level I trauma center. Our Trauma service has ~ 7000 Trauma Code activations annually with ~ 4500 trauma admissions. Our Surgical Critical Care provides care for ~1500 patient consults per year on a variety of service lines such as: Transplant, HEENT, Surgical Oncology, Emergency General Surgery, Orthopedic, Hepatobiliary, Trauma, Vascular, etc. Most recently, Atrium Health and Wake Forest Baptist Health, including Wake Forest School of Medicine officially joined as a single enterprise, Atrium Health. The Enterprise will have over 70,000 teammates working together to provide personalized care for each of the 15 million annual patient encounters.

Requirements

• Must have or be eligible for a DEA license
• Approved to practice as a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant in the state one works
• Eligible for prescriptive authority application through the Board of Nursing or Medical Board in NC required
• BLS for Healthcare Provider from AHA required with expiration date greater than 90 days from date of beginning practice
• Demonstrates appropriate critical thinking, interpersonal skills, and the ability to prioritize and make proactive decisions
• Current BCLS, ACLS, PALS, and ATLS preferred
• 1 Year experience ACNP or AGANP required for Nurse Practitioner
• Graduate from an accredited Physician Assistant program required, master's degree preferred for Physician Assistant
• 1 Year experience required for Physician Assistant

Nice To Haves

• Critical care experience preferred
• Acute Care board certification required based upon population and acuity served
• Certification from the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants preferred

Responsibilities

• Rotational assignments cross covering between Surgical Critical Care and Trauma Service lines
• Surgical Critical Care coverage: 0630-1930 Mon-Sun
• Trauma coverage: 0600-1900 Mon-Sun with overlapping clinic coverage
• Every other Weekend, Holidays required
• Primarily day shift coverage model with occasional to rare night coverage
• Teaching opportunities with military PAs, residents and/or APP Fellows
