About The Position

The Department of Surgery at the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) is seeking a Trauma and Acute Care Surgeon at the late Assistant or Associate Professor level to serve in a unique leadership role as the Physician Lead of an established Hospital-Based Violence Intervention Program (HVIP). The Turning the Tide Violence Intervention Program ( https://muschealth.org/medical-services/emergency/trauma/turning-the-tide ) began in 2021, and is nationally recognized for its service to patients, research, innovation and leadership. Requirements

  • Board Certified or Board Eligible in General Surgery and Surgical Critical Care
  • Eligible for medical licensure in South Carolina
  • Minimum of 3 years post-fellowship clinical experience
  • Demonstrated interest in trauma surgery, public health, and violence prevention
  • Experience with or strong interest in grant writing and program development
  • Academic experience and interest in research or community-engaged scholarship
  • Leadership experience or demonstrated potential for leadership in programmatic or clinical roles

Responsibilities

  • Provide clinical leadership and strategic direction for the HVIP in collaboration with a multidisciplinary team
  • Partner with community-based organizations to develop and implement evidence-based violence prevention strategies
  • Lead and contribute to grant writing efforts to secure ongoing program funding
  • Support program evaluation, data collection, and research related to outcomes and impact
  • Serve as a mentor and educator to trainees interested in public health, trauma, and community-engaged care
