When you join the growing BILH team, you're not just taking a job, you're making a difference in people's lives.Job Description:The Division of General Surgery of Lahey Hospital and Medical Center is seeking a surgeon to join its growing six-member Acute Care Surgery (ACS) section.About Lahey:Lahey Hospital and Medical Center is a 396-bed tertiary-care hospital and Level I trauma center of the Beth Israel Lahey Health Network. It is the principal referral center for Beverly Hospital, Winchester Hospital, Anna Jaques Hospital, and Addison Gilbert Hospital. It manages 1,800 trauma activations annually, and about an equal number of cases requiring emergency general surgical care. Requirements

  • Completion of General Surgery residency and Surgical Critical Care fellowship
  • Board certified or board-eligible in General Surgery and Surgical Critical Care (with eligibility period consistent with Lahey's Medical Staff Association guidelines).
  • Eligibility for licensure in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
  • Eligibility for academic appointment at the University of Massachusetts Chan School of Medicine
  • Must have strong interpersonal and communication skills, and work well with others.
  • Must participate in clinical research in the field of trauma and acute care surgery during period of employment.

Responsibilities

  • Work well with a multidisciplinary team including residents, advanced practice providers, students, and other support staff.
  • Run one of two busy daytime ACS services with a daily census of 20-25 patients.
  • Be involved in nighttime and weekend in-house call coverage with responsibilities including consultation for emergency general surgery, trauma, surgical rescue and emergency colorectal and bariatric surgery cases; SICU coverage; difficult airway response team; and non-emergency central venous access team.
  • Participate in the Division's quality and process improvement efforts, and other administrative work as designated by the Chair or ACS Medical Director.
  • Educate surgical residents, and medical students from both the University of Massachusetts and Tufts medical schools
  • Pursue and maintain an active trauma/ACS-related research interest of their choice.
