The Transporter role at Saint Marys Campus involves direct patient contact and frequent interaction with various healthcare staff. Responsibilities include safely and efficiently transporting patients, visitors, and patient-related items, providing detailed verbal communication during patient handoffs, and confirming patient identification. The role requires independent functioning as well as teamwork, with knowledge in using a smartphone and managing transport requests via computer or telephone. Transporters are expected to safely operate and disinfect various motorized patient transport equipment, perform wheelchair roundups, and assist patients requiring special equipment like oxygen or IV pumps. The position demands significant physical activity, including standing/walking 10-12 miles per 8-hour shift and frequently pushing/pulling patients up to 200 pounds, occasionally exceeding 350 pounds. Transporters must understand and adhere to medical isolation precautions, protocols, and PPE requirements, and assist with patient transfers using slider boards and ceiling lift slings. They also monitor patients' conditions during transport, recognizing and responding to potential medical emergencies. Working hours are flexible, including days, evenings, overnights, holidays, and weekends with rotating days off, and may require attending meetings or assisting in training new employees. A minimum of 80 hours of on-the-job training is provided to perform basic job functions.
