About The Position

Position Function: To provide transportation of patients to and from treatment areas, and to maintain general transportation/mobility of supplies and equipment.

Requirements

  • High school graduate or equivalent.
  • Experience applying customer service behaviors and communication skills required.
  • Current CPR certification required.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in health care preferred.
  • Knowledge of orthopedic appliances, traction equipment, and their various uses helpful.

Responsibilities

  • Does not tolerate those who create, foster, or condone an intimidating, hostile, offensive or abrasive work environment.
  • Shows respect for patients by knocking on door before entering room, and making proper inquiries before going behind drawn curtains in patient rooms.
  • Utilizes appropriate, mechanical means or equipment to position, lift, transfer, or transport patients in a manner that minimizes the risk of personal and patient injury and that fosters proper body mechanics and procedures.
  • Assists in other related functions as assigned.
  • Safely transports patients to and from treatment areas, ensures that each patient is properly attired to ensure personal dignity and respect during transport.
  • Ensures that all procedures with regards to signing patients on and off the nursing unit or within the department are in compliance.
  • Responds to inquiries, phone calls,etc., in a professional and positive manner that enhances the image of the department and its staff.
  • Refers all patient inquiries regarding their care or their status to the appropriate professional in a manner that conveys positive recognition and enhancement of the departments chain of command.
  • Assists with patient lifts and transfers when indicated.
  • Observes patient’s condition during transport and reports changes in patient’s condition to clinical personnel.
  • Assists in orientation of new personnel serving as a “buddy” to new transporters.
  • Responds appropriately to emergency situations.
  • Performs external cardiac compressions to patients during ERT activities if required.
  • Follows hospital patient safety standards.
  • Has knowledge of dispatcher function and is able to temporarily fill that job function.
  • Transports medications within the hospital as requested and needed according to Hospital policy.
