About The Position

The UPMC Patient Transport team is expanding and seeks individuals passionate about patient care and community involvement. As a Patient Transporter, you will facilitate daily hospital operations by moving patients to and from various areas like testing, procedural, and nursing units. This role offers a unique perspective on healthcare, allowing interaction with diverse professional services such as Imaging, Nursing, Security, and Pharmacy. It serves as an excellent entry point for those interested in patient transport or a broader healthcare career. The position offers flexible scheduling options, including 4, 8, 10, and 12-hour shifts on weekdays, weekends, and holidays, between 6 am and 11 pm, promoting work-life balance. Currently, open positions are at UPMC Community Osteopathic, and the department provides an individualized on-the-job training program. UPMC is looking for self-motivated individuals ready to join a dynamic, fast-paced healthcare environment.

Requirements

  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions in order to successfully complete Transport duties.
  • Ability to use Transport equipment.
  • May in the course of their duties be in rooms where medications are stored or may transport medications when they transport patients. Transportation of medication is limited from one department to another.
  • CPR required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR).
  • Act 31 Child Abuse Reporting with renewal.
  • Act 33 with renewal.
  • Act 34 with renewal.
  • Act 73 FBI Clearance with renewal.

Responsibilities

  • Perform inspections and disinfecting procedures on transportation equipment utilized by the department.
  • Record transportation data electronically in the Transport Tracking System and/or manually on appropriate forms and logs utilized by the department.
  • Delivers supplies, equipment, medication and other materials to the patient units, and other designated areas in a safe, timely, and accurate manner. Ensures that a handoff of medication occurs with the nurse.
  • Report the status of transportation activities and abnormal activities to the manager in charge.
  • Deliver supplies, equipment, and other materials to the patient units, and other designated areas in a safe, timely, and accurate manner.
  • Transport patients and adjunct equipment via prescribed vehicles between patient units, treatment centers, and their designated areas in a safe, timely, and accurate manner.
  • Maintain a courteous professional demeanor and communicates appropriately with patients, visitors, hospital personnel, and fellow employees at all times.
