About The Position

Position transports patients and equipment throughout the medical center.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Computer Literate Preferred.
• Knowledge of the appropriate use of stretchers, beds and wheelchairs.
• Excellent customer satisfaction and internal customer relations.
• Ability to fully utilize BHMC’s electronic record systems, equipment and other healthcare and billing systems relevant to this position.
• Position requires prolonged periods of standing, reaching, walking throughout the working day.
• Position will be required to stoop, bend, lift, and carry items weighing up to 75 pounds.

Responsibilities

• Transport patients to designated areas as directed.
• Assists the Nursing Staff with lifting and transferring patients from bed to stretcher or vice versa, and any transportation devices or equipment.
• Verifies patients name as per the patient Identification Protocol.
• Assesses the need for an additional support staff (transporter) if required and informs the Supervisor.
• Assists the Clinical Staff in the transport of post- operative patients on Cardiac monitors and ventilators.
• Remains with patient until accepted by clinical staff for the prescribed procedure(s).
• Provides wheelchairs for discharged patients upon request.
• Wipes and cleans equipment after every transport.
• Reports to supervisor any broken and damaged equipment to be tagged and taken out of service.
• Reports any complaints by patients during transport to the Supervisor.
• Informs clinical staff when oxygen is not at an appropriate and safe level when transporting patients requiring the use of oxygen.
• Transports patients in a manner that does not compromise the patient’s dignity and privacy.
• Perform other duties as requested.
