The Department of Surgical Services at Weston Hospital is looking to add a Transporter Aide to the Peri-Operative team. As a Transporter Aide in this unit, you will assist fellow caregivers in ensuring patients have the critical attention and treatment they need. Under the direction of the Peri-Operative Nurse, you will help create a safe and sterile OR, maintain supply inventories, provide patient transport and monitor environmental equipment. This role plays an integral part in the overall organization and flow of the department. A caregiver in this role works days from 10:00 a.m. – 6:30 p.m.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma/GED
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) through American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross
  • Strong follow-through and understanding of the principle of universal precautions

Nice To Haves

  • One year of experience in an acute care hospital setting
  • Prior experience as a patient transporter
  • Experience working in a hospital

Responsibilities

  • Identify the surgical patient by checking ID Band and asking the Patient to state name before transport.
  • Report any significant changes in patient condition immediately.
  • Provide safe patient transfer.
  • Assure patients are warm and provide a safe environment upon entry to OR Department.
  • Provide nursing staff with patient charts and assist in OR record preparation.
  • Maintain active communication with Surgical Control Desk regarding any encountered patient delays.
  • Assist in lifting, moving and positioning surgical patients while following correct body mechanics protocols.
  • Assist the RN during surgical positioning, modes of anesthesia and surgical site prep.
  • Perform daily cleaning duties following policy and procedure, universal precautions.
  • Maintain strong hand washing technique between patient contacts and room cleaning.
  • Assist in terminal cleaning protocol of OR suites when directed.
  • Assure surgical equipment is moved to proper location after cleaning and surgical bed is replaced to LOCKED position.
  • Decontaminate equipment, stretchers and beds after use and prepare post-op beds and stretchers to maintain sufficient inventory of cleaning supplies, masks and scrub supplies for all designated areas with Department.
  • Restock irrigation and blankets daily to appropriate locations.
  • Validate environmental supply inventory for needed rotation to verify any expired product line.
  • Validate specimens in logbook prior to transport to pathology. Initials book with time.
  • Monitor and record temperature of OR suites/warming cabinets according to policy and procedure.
  • Assure all biohazard material is handled and disposed of properly utilizing universal precautions.
