About The Position

The Maine Department of Transportation (MaineDOT) is seeking a Transportation Worker for its Maintenance and Operations (Region 5) team. This role is crucial for maintaining safe and effective roadways and bridges, ensuring Mainers can travel safely. Responsibilities include road repair and culvert replacement during the summer, and plowing during the winter. Transportation Workers are on the front lines of roadwork, often working long hours in various weather conditions. The position offers a dynamic work environment where daily tasks change with the seasons, providing opportunities to learn new skills. Requirements

  • Must be 18 years of age
  • Have a high school diploma or equivalent
  • Required to work at a higher class as necessary and in accordance with required licenses and/or certification
  • Pass a State-paid Medical examination that includes a drug test
  • Pass the Department’s Respirator fit test
  • Possess a Class C State of Maine license by first day of employment
  • Obtain and retain a valid Class B State of Maine license during the initial six-month probationary period
  • Ability to become a certified snow fighter within 12 months
  • Ability to obtain flagger certification within a specified amount of time

Responsibilities

  • Keep roadways and bridges safe and effective
  • Perform road repair
  • Conduct culvert replacement in the summer
  • Engage in plowing activities in the winter
  • Work at a higher class as necessary and in accordance with required licenses and/or certification
