About The Position

Under the general supervision of a Senior Transportation Surveyor, Incumbent will work as a first-line supervisor planning, coordinating, administering, and executing the work of a survey crew conducting preliminary, control, topographic, construction and cadastral land surveys. In addition, Incumbent will train subordinates to perform land survey duties including, but not limited to, operation of precision surveying instruments, proper surveying procedures, equipment maintenance, survey calculations and note keeping. As a working first line supervisor, Incumbent will also perform all required supervisor duties. Please refer to Duty Statement for further details.

Requirements

  • Eligibility for hire may be determined by your score on the Transportation Surveyor Party Chief (Caltrans) exam.
  • For those who do not have current eligibility (e.g., transfer, permissive reinstatement, or voluntary demotions) and/or who will be new to state civil services employment, you must be on the state examination list to be eligible for these positions.
  • Incumbent must possess and maintain a valid and unrestricted driver's license when operating State vehicles.
  • Must drive a vehicle to conduct normal work activities.
  • The position(s) require(s) a(n) California Land Surveyor License.
  • You will be required to provide a copy of your license prior to being hired.
  • Possession of Minimum Qualifications will be verified prior to interview and/or appointment.
  • If you are basing your eligibility on education, you must include your unofficial transcript(s)/diploma for verification.
  • Applicants with foreign transcripts/degrees must provide a transcript/degree U.S. equivalency report evaluation that indicates the number of units and degree to which the foreign coursework is equivalent.

Nice To Haves

  • A Transportation Surveyor Party Chief must possess an expert-level understanding of the technical aspects of land surveying in the field.
  • This includes knowledge of mathematics and basic science as it applies to the land surveying profession.
