About The Position

Renville County Human Services is seeking responsible, motivated individuals to help support children and adults who need transportation assistance. This position offers flexibility—you can choose the trips that best fit your schedule, including daytime, evening, and/or weekend. Additional opportunities may include supervising family visitations, though this is optional. Provides supportive direct and administrative services to Children and Adult Social Services staff and families. Primary responsibilities include supervising family visits, transporting children for visitation and court-related activities, documenting family interactions, and promoting safety, stability, and healthy child development.

Requirements

  • Equivalent of two years of home management experience, including childcare experience.
  • Relevant coursework in home economics, child development, health, social work, sociology, or a closely related behavioral science may be substituted for experience on a year-for-year basis.
  • Valid Driver’s License is required.
  • Knowledge and understanding of human behavior and family dynamics, including the cycle of family violence.
  • Knowledge of parenting techniques, child growth and development, and health and safety principles.
  • Knowledge of drug and alcohol use and abuse.
  • Knowledge of child maltreatment reporting laws and agency operations, policies, and procedures.
  • Ability to recognize indicators of abuse and neglect.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to read directions, comprehend information, and complete accurate and timely records.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with clients, the public, co-workers, and agency administration.
  • Ability to make decisions and remain objective.
  • Ability to work effectively as a member of a team.
  • Knowledge of modern communication tools, including email, voicemail, and telephone systems.

Responsibilities

  • Transport children to and from visitation locations and other court-related activities as directed by the social worker and/or supervisor.
  • Supervise family visits to ensure child safety and appropriate interactions.
  • Observe and document family dynamics and interactions and convey observations to the social worker to assist in determining family needs and level of services.
  • Demonstrate and teach parenting skills, nurturing skills, appropriate discipline methods, and child growth and development concepts while supervising visits if needed.
  • Serve as an appropriate role model and provide ongoing support and encouragement to build client self-esteem.
  • Recognize and report indicators of neglect and emotional, physical, or sexual abuse of children and adults, in accordance with mandated reporting laws.
  • Guide clients in developing or restoring socialization skills, including appropriate use of recreation.
  • Document observations, teaching opportunities, and family interactions related to parenting skills and socialization.
  • Complete car seat training as offered by the agency and effectively install and take out car seats used during transportation.
  • Ability to drive in adverse weather.
  • Maintain accurate, timely, and confidential documentation and records.
  • Communicate effectively with social workers, supervisors, and other agency staff regarding client progress and concerns.
  • Set up and clean up during visitations in the county agency or other community areas.
  • Follow agency policies, procedures, and court directives.
  • Other duties as assigned.
