About The Position

Responsible for planning, organizing, staffing, training and directing the activities of the transportation department to meet customer needs and satisfy company objectives. Monitors dispatch activities to ensure timely delivery of products and effective response to customer requests, problems, and requirements. Develops effective communication with customers and other fundamental areas of the company.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 4 years’ experience in a Class-A dispatch environment for both local drivers in a 3PL environment.
  • Minimum of 2 years of supervisor experience managing drivers and dispatchers in a mid-to-large scale trucking operation.
  • TMS experience required.
  • Proficient at MS Word, MS Excel, Outlook.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills
  • Flexible to meet changing demands and able to juggle many tasks simultaneously in a busy environment.
  • Excellent follow-through on commitments/deadlines.
  • Must show initiative, strong attention to detail, and time management skills.
  • Must be adaptable, follow and issue directions, and maintain organized work processes.
  • Possess critical thinking, judgement, listening, and reasoning skills.
  • Works well in a team environment: train co-workers, cover in times of absences, communicates and resolves issues with all necessary parties (customers, upper leadership, etc.), assist with the workload as needed, etc.
  • Must be able to successfully pass a background.

Nice To Haves

  • Recent (in the last 5 years) LA/LB Port dispatching experience strongly preferred.
  • Truck mate TMS experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure constant communication with the associates so that the needed information is passed on to the different groups to accomplish daily to annual tasks and goals.
  • Assigns, directs, monitors, and ensures proper completion of tasks for dispatchers, drivers, and transportation clerks.
  • Motivates employees to ensure that the predetermined productivity, cost, and quality standards are achieved.
  • Under the direction of the manager, responsible for consistency in the performance management of all personnel which includes evaluations and all levels of progressive discipline.
  • Develop, coach, and cross-train direct reports while encouraging individual growth towards confidence and independent work habits.
  • Monitor and manage driver performance metrics including revenue, hours, MPG, on-time delivery, and safety compliance.
  • Oversee an operation of 20-40 daily routes
  • Ensures proper use of the e-log system with regards to tracking and communication.
  • Navigates WMS and TMS to troubleshoot problems.
  • Ensure compliance with all State and Federal laws and regulations.
  • Identify and/or solve operational issues by implementing ideas to improve operation efficiencies and LEAN initiatives, strengthen team unity, goals, productivity, and results.
  • Maintain open and effective communication within the work group(s) and with other work groups within the organization.
  • Review data, identify and implement necessary actions as required.
  • Create an environment of trust and open communication that allows the associates’ voices to be heard by building strong relationships and fostering a collaborative and inclusive work environment.
  • Regular and satisfactory attendance and punctuality are a must.
  • Receives feedback in a positive manner with a willingness to learn
