FOUNTAIN VALLEY SCHOOL DISTRICT CLASS TITLE: TRANSPORTATION SUPERVISOR BASIC FUNCTION: Under the direction of the Assistant Superintendent-Business Administration, plan, organize and direct the transportation services of the District including Home-to-School, Special Education and other busing activities; supervise and evaluate the performance of assigned staff. REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES: Plan, organize and direct the transportation services of the District including Home-to-School, Special Education and other busing activities such as field trips. E Prepare, implement and modify various bus routes and schedules for regular session and summer school; notify parents and the community by mail regarding routes and schedules. E Supervise and coordinate with the Lead Heavy Duty Mechanic, the maintenance of District vehicles and equipment, parts and supplies procurement and required record keeping. E Administer the Pay-to-Ride program including annual documentation development, bus map printing and community mailing of related materials. E Arrange for and schedule substitute bus drivers; drive buses as needed to cover absences. E Supervise and evaluate the performance of assigned staff; interview and select employees and recommend transfers, reassignment, termination and disciplinary actions. E Receive and respond to field trip bookings for District and charter buses; estimate costs; contact and schedule outside contractors for field trips as needed; prepare and type purchase orders as appropriate. E Assure that classroom, behind-the-wheel training and in-services for bus drivers are completed as required by law; oversee the maintenance of records related to driver training, bus mileage/passenger reports, daily bus checks, field trips and other records. E Receive and respond to parent complaints regarding buses, routes, bus stops and personnel. E Investigate and prepare reports on all District vehicle accidents, submit reports to the insurance company and make recommendations as needed. E Provide technical expertise, information and assistance to the Assistant Superintendent regarding assigned functions; assist as needed in the formulation and development of policies, procedures and programs. E Supervise the preparation and maintenance of a variety of narrative and statistical reports, records and files related to assigned activities and personnel; prepare and maintain State and federal reports as assigned. E Communicate with other administrators, District personnel and contractors to coordinate activities and programs, resolve issues and conflicts and exchange information. E Develop and prepare the annual preliminary budget for the Transportation Department; analyze and review budgetary and financial data; control and authorize expenditures in accordance with established limitations. E Attend and conduct a variety of meetings as assigned. Perform related duties as assigned. KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES: KNOWLEDGE OF: Planning, organization and direction of the Transportation Department. Policies, rules and regulations related to pupil transportation. Driver training practices and methods. Budget preparation and control. Oral and written communication skills. Principles and practices of administration, supervision and training. Applicable laws, codes, regulations, policies and procedures. Basic first aid methods and practices. ABILITY TO: Supervise and evaluate the performance of assigned staff. Plan bus routes and schedules. Communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Interpret, apply and explain rules, regulations, policies and procedures. Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others. Analyze situations accurately and adopt an effective course of action. Meet schedules and time lines. Work independently with little direction. Plan and organize work. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Any combination equivalent to: three years of transportation experience preferably including routing and dispatching, and supervisory experience. LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Valid California Class A or B driver license with passenger endorsement. Valid medical card. Valid California School Bus Driver Certificate. WORKING CONDITIONS: ENVIRONMENT: Office environment. Driving in various road and weather conditions. PHYSICAL ABILITIES: Hearing and speaking to exchange information and make presentations. Seeing to inspect vehicles. Climbing up steps to get in and out of buses. Arms, shoulders, legs to drive a school bus. Pushing or pulling wheelchairs. Bending at the waist, kneeling or crouching. Lifting heavy objects and students.
