The Transportation Supervisor is responsible for the day-to-day supervision of timely delivery of product in the most efficient and cost-effective manner, driver safety, driver training, and the assignment of drivers and equipment. Ensure proactive communication with internal staff and customers on route changes, delays, delivery constraints, or pickup challenges.

Requirements

  • HS Diploma/GED. (Associate’s degree is preferred).
  • Minimum 3 years of previous transportation, distribution or supply chain experience is required.
  • Must have a valid passenger vehicle drivers license.
  • Must be proficient with MS Office Applications, can write and interpret business and have experience with a TMS (Transportation Management System).

Nice To Haves

  • Commercial driving experience is preferred.
  • Experience interacting with equipment vendors is preferred.
  • Strong supervisory skills to develop driver and support staff performance standards.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Reports to Transportation Managers for Romeoville DC 18, escalating operational and team member issues when it is required.
  • Supervise day-to-day transportation operations to maximize equipment utility, driver efficiency and customer service.
  • Daliy monitoring of driver activity, proactively communicating to internal and external contacts any delivery or pickup issues.
  • Supervise all drivers for DOT compliance, OSHA safety, document management, customer service and On Time performance based on KeHE Driver Standard Operating Procedures. Providing training and coaching for all drivers,
  • Review drivers and office staff time off requests in employee management system weekly.
  • Ensure DOT compliance of drivers and equipment using Driver Management Compliance software and by collaboration with the Safety Supervisor.
  • Coordinate equipment availability, and make decisions on route priorities while collaborating with DC 18 warehouse leadership.
  • Conduct yard Checks, safety audits and physically inspect fleet equipment regularly.
  • Once a year conduct in field delivery observation of drivers in conjunction with Safety Supervisor to gather driver and customer field experience data.
  • Communicate and drive department KPI’s by educating driver and office staff on their impact on metrics.
  • Effectively supervise backhaul program and ensure Inventory Management is updated on backhaul availability changes.
  • Provide training leadership and coaching to Transportation Office support staff on a regular basis.
  • Other duties and special projects as required.
  • Must maintain good attendance.
  • Maintain and promote safe work practices.
  • Maintain safeguards for confidential company information and also apply discretion to employees personal information.
