About The Position

The Transportation Specialist provides safe, reliable, and flexible transportation services for families and youth. This role ensures that children and families are able to attend essential appointments, court hearings, visitations, and other case-related activities that support engagement in services and case plans. The Transportation Specialist fosters a supportive and respectful environment during transport, ensuring safety, professionalism, and adherence to agency, state, and federal guidelines.

  • 1 year employment experience in the child welfare field working with children and/or adolescents in a social service setting.
  • Must be 21 years of age or older.
  • Flexible schedule (evening, weekends, holidays) to facilitate program services.
  • May be required to pass a drug test.
  • Cleared background checks from appropriate entities, including Child Abuse and Neglect and FBI criminal background.
  • May be required to obtain and maintain CPR/First Aid and Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) certification.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license with a clean record; be eligible to drive to facilitate program services.

Responsibilities

  • Provide safe and timely transportation for youth and families to and from court hearings, family visitations, medical and behavioral health appointments, school, and other case-related activities.
  • Maintain responsibility for the safety and well-being of passengers at all times during transport.
  • Conduct pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections to ensure vehicles are in safe operating condition and report maintenance or safety concerns promptly.
  • Follow all traffic laws, transportation regulations, and VisionQuest policies while operating agency vehicles.
  • Assist families and youth with safe entry, seating, and exit from vehicles, ensuring use of appropriate safety restraints.
  • Serve as a professional and supportive representative of the Transportation Services program, maintaining a trauma-informed, respectful, and culturally sensitive approach.
  • Build positive rapport with youth and families while maintaining professional boundaries.
  • Support youth and families in maintaining engagement with services and case plans by ensuring reliable access to required appointments and activities.
  • Complete all required trip logs, mileage reports, and documentation of transports in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Report and document any incidents, behavioral concerns, or safety issues that occur during transport in accordance with policy.
  • Ensure confidentiality of all client and case information.
  • Follow all Occupational Health and Safety protocols and VisionQuest policies.
  • Work collaboratively with Children and Youth Services staff, caseworkers, and VisionQuest colleagues to coordinate transportation schedules.
  • Participate in departmental, all-staff, and mandatory training, including defensive driving, first aid/CPR, and trauma-informed care.
  • Assist with the orientation of new staff regarding transportation program procedures, as requested.
  • Other tasks and responsibilities as assigned by supervisor(s).
