Amentum is looking for a Transportation Specialist to join our #pecan team! Essential Responsibilities: The Transportation Specialist is responsible for coordinating and overseeing the efficient movement of goods, materials, and personnel to ensure compliance with customer requirements, organizational policies, and regulatory standards. This role involves managing transportation logistics, scheduling deliveries, and performing inspections to maintain safety and operational efficiency. The Transportation Specialist communicates with internal and external stakeholders to resolve issues, facilitate timely deliveries, and ensure the accurate documentation of all transport activities. Primary responsibilities include: Transport Coordination: Manage the transportation and shipment of goods, materials, and equipment, ensuring deliveries align with customer timelines and specifications. Coordinate local and regional transportation schedules using Agency-owned and leased vehicles, ensuring proper material handling and timely pickups/deliveries. Verify delivery instructions for oversized or sensitive cargo and adjust plans to minimize risks during transit. Shipment Documentation: Create and maintain accurate records for shipments, including manifests, delivery receipts, bills of lading, and transportation reports. Ensure compliance with Agency regulations, applicable laws, and standard operating procedures (SOPs) regarding the transportation of materials and equipment. Resolve discrepancies related to shipped or received goods by collaborating with vendors, customers, and internal teams. Inspection & Safety Compliance: Inspect vehicles, equipment, and cargo to ensure they meet safety standards, damage-free handling, and operational functionality before and after shipments. Implement and enforce safety protocols, including securing cargo and adhering to weight limits, vehicle maintenance schedules, and traffic regulations. Identify and report any transportation-related hazards, vehicle malfunctions, or operational issues for resolution. Fleet & Equipment Utilization: Oversee the use and maintenance of transportation vehicles, including light-duty trucks, vans, forklifts, and other Material Handling Equipment (MHE). Schedule periodic inspections and repairs for fleet vehicles to maintain readiness and compliance with regulatory standards. Optimize vehicle use and cargo loading to maximize efficiency and minimize downtime or excess costs. Customer Interaction & Coordination: Serve as the primary point of contact for customers regarding pickup and delivery requirements, schedules, and special instructions. Provide status updates for transported goods and proactively communicate any delays or changes in the schedule. Assist customers in resolving transportation-related inquiries or challenges, ensuring high levels of satisfaction. Regulatory & Legal Compliance: Maintain a thorough understanding of and adherence to transportation laws, including those related to hazardous materials, weight limits, driver licensing, and vehicle maintenance. Ensure that all transportation activities comply with national, local, and Agency-specific regulations and standards. Database Management: Use applicable transportation/logistics management software or databases to track shipments, manage inventory in transit, and generate reports. Update and maintain accurate records of transportation schedules, vehicle logs, and material movement. Work Environment, Physical Demands, and Mental Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be exposed to: Indoor and outdoor environments with varying temperatures, weather conditions, and occasional exposure to vehicle exhaust and noise. Heavy lifting and loading/unloading of materials and equipment requiring compliance with safety protocols. The position requires: Physical stamina to stand, walk, bend, stoop, and lift frequently during transportation activities, with the ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds unassisted. Dexterity and coordination for the operation of vehicles, forklifts, and Material Handling Equipment (MHE). A strong sense of spatial awareness for cargo loading, route planning, and vehicle operation in tight or congested areas. Mental focus to manage logistics schedules, ensure compliance with regulations, and resolve challenges efficiently. Noise levels may vary from moderate (office setting) to loud (transportation/warehouse setting), requiring hearing protection in certain environments.
